Global Authoritarianism and the Evolution of Capitalistic Colonization

In my book project, Beyond Oppression: Colonization and the Language of Heroes, I focus primarily on a historical analysis of European expansion and empire across the Atlantic to The Americas, and Africa, from the outset of the industrial revolution through the late 1800’s.  However, since that time colonization in Africa and the Americas has evolved and continued, as observed through the Jim Crow years and presently through the enslavement of many young people through massive college debt, and the population as a whole through a rigged economy that sells public property to the highest bidder, the prison and military industrialist complexes, and through the complete financialization of our political system – enforced through the Supreme Court’s decision on Citizens United, as well as racketeering-style lobbying, and in other ways.

In an article today at Truthout, acclaimed scholar and author, Noam Choamsky, speaks to the rise of global authoritarianism – something which has taken power from people and awarded it to the extremely rich.  Choamsky says in part that our democracy reflects "capitalist, not democratic, values" and that:
Ample work in mainstream political science shows that a majority of voters are not represented by their own elected representatives, who listen to different voices — the voices of the donor class, great wealth and the corporate sector...the penetrating work of Thomas Ferguson reveals that for a long time, elections have been substantially bought, including Congress, continuing right to the present, 2016 (election).
These facts alone show that the furor about alleged Russian interference with our pristine democratic process reveals profound indoctrination — in capitalist, not democratic, values.  Read more.
