In an article today at Truthout, acclaimed scholar and author, Noam Choamsky, speaks to the rise of global authoritarianism – something which has taken power from people and awarded it to the extremely rich. Choamsky says in part that our democracy reflects "capitalist, not democratic, values" and that:
Ample work in mainstream political science shows that a majority of voters are not represented by their own elected representatives, who listen to different voices — the voices of the donor class, great wealth and the corporate sector...the penetrating work of Thomas Ferguson reveals that for a long time, elections have been substantially bought, including Congress, continuing right to the present, 2016 (election).
